Description

Studies of the Combretum glutinosum plant have revealed significant flavonoid antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The plant is highly valued in traditional medicine. An infusion of the leaves is very popular during cStudies old and flu seasons. The Maninka tribe called it Jaambakatan, which means “the leaf which does not deceive.” They take a leaf decoction in baths and by draught against fatigue. A decoction of the leaves is a very popular medication, mainly to heal urinary, liver and kidney complaints, but also all kinds of respiratory problems. It is distributed throughout the Sahel belt from Senegal to Cameroon, and eastwards to the Sudan. It is resistant to arid conditions, surviving where grasses will not, and it recovers quickly from burning. It often grows gregariously on sandy and degraded soils.
